Our Mission
The Independence County Library Friends Foundation is an independent, nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to advancing the educational and informational needs of the community through its support of the Independence County Library.
Who We Are
The Independence County Library Friends Foundation Board, comprised of local residents interested in promoting and expanding the benefits of the Library, meets on the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Independence County Library. The meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
Since moving in 2018 into the renovated Barnett Building in Batesville, the Library has experienced increasing numbers of patrons; materials checked out; the addition of a Teen Program; more computers for patrons’ use; computer classes; new and expanded programming; and more – all of which result in a better, more relevant Library for our community. The Friends Foundation also operates a bookstore to sell used books and Library related items.
The Friends Foundation offers this online convenience so patron and county residents can make donations and pay membership fees to help us further enhance the Library in Independence County.
The “Friends of the Library” meet periodically throughout the year to identify and address issues of need. Everyone is invited to join the Friends Foundation, and membership allows individuals to vote on topics of importance, and fully participate in the activities of the Library. Membership dues are $25 per year. If you are interested in joining the Friends Foundation, contact Carlene Morrison at carlene@indcolib.com, or call (870) 793-8814.
